What should I be doing?
I currently follow 34 blogs via Google Reader, and while they are all more stimulating than mine they are not always the greatest source of information. Today though I was reading a guest blogger on lifechurch.tv’s swerve blog and I got hit smack in the face. (You can see it here)
The main point was that if I were taking my kid to a new school and talking to the faculty I would ask questions like “What are the goals for my child?” or “What curriculum are you going to be studying?”
Well, as a church do we have a clear objective for Spiritual Growth? Since I help write two spiritual growth curriculum’s at our church I can honestly say we have a little room for improvement. I need to step back and figure out if what I am doing is to reach our objective or if it is just filler material.
I met with Mark today and shared with him my concern, and I hope over the coming weeks to really nail down if what I am doing is getting people closer to the goal, or is it just filling people with a lot of head knowledge that is benefecial, but as it relates to our goal, “A Sideline.” But the first question is what is our goal? What characteristics make up a “Fully Devoted Follower of Christ?”
The Living Room
Last night was awesome. I struggled this week with how to talk about really personal stuff in a Life Group that is only three weeks old. The Lord made it happen. We had a husband show up with his wife. She had already been attending and this was his first time. He asked a couple of questions that really got the discussion going. His wife was a little embarrassed, but I was so thankful because it really opened the floor for growth. Don’t you love it when God uses someone and they were totally oblivious to God’s divine flow through their life. Needless to say from there the sharing began and the discussion notes I worked so hard to prepare were out the window when God started to speak through the participants.
The Living Room is supposed to be the place where life happens, and last night it happened. I love this group. As we get to know each other I can only imagine the spiritual growth that we can experience together. I am pumped.
The Living Room Life Group
Tonight was our first Post Launch LG meeting for the Living Room. I think it was overall pretty good. Kristi was sick, so that killed my lifeline. We had six couples, so we have a good base. The guys all seemed to be on the same wave length, and I think it is going to be really good.
